
Once upon a boardroom minute, the Chief Risk Officer sat confidently, arms folded, reassured by the glow of an all-singing, all-dancing GRC dashboard.
“Our GRC vendor has it all covered,” he declared.
Fast forward a quarter—and that dashboard is dark.
The vendor’s gone under.
And our dear CRO is now fumbling through printouts of spreadsheets labelled “Risk Register v1.3.xlsx”, left to explain to the board why critical risks are missing from the report.
The irony? The tool meant to manage risk became the very source of it.
Lesson : Risk management cannot be outsourced wholesale. Tools fail. Vendors collapse. But accountability stays in-house.
